Bénédictine is an amber herbal liqueur from France, first prepared in the sixteenth century by monks of the Benedictine order in the monastery of Fécamp (Normandy). The name suffix "D.O.M.", which the original French product bears, is the abbreviation for "deo optimo maximo", the Latin dedication of the liqueur to "the best, greatest God".
